Many fish that are kept today are farm bred specifically for our hobby, and as a result of this are often tolerant of conditions and water chemistry very different from their natural habitat.
Often though, for them to successfully breed they will need very specific conditions, and it is up to us as fishkeepers to research and provide these for our fish if we wish to breed them with success.
The Breeders Award Programme was introduced in 1999 to recognise and reward those members who have made the effort to do this.
